Frequent Asked Questions
Where do we buy dance wear and shoes?
We recommend purchasing your attire through this link.
When do classes begin and end?
We follow an academic year calendar, with classes beginning the Tuesday after Labor Day, and concluding at the beginning of June. Monday students attend class the week of Thanksgiving, and the studio closes for the remainder of that week for the holiday. The studio is closed for ~ two weeks during winter break. Students are welcome to join classes mid-year, but before recital commitments are due. Please contact us for class availability.
How do we get involved in Nolte Nutcracker?
Ballet students Level 1 and above are invited to audition for our annual Nutcracker production held at The Englert Theatre. Auditions occur in mid- to late-August and rehearsals begin immediately. Our Nutcracker performances kick off the local holiday season in late November/early December.
What should we expect with year-end recital?
Students perform in a year-end recital at Hancher Auditorium in early June. Acting, Voice and Musical Theatre students may have a separate recital at Coralville Center for the Performing Arts. Creative Movement students have a separate recital, often during their final class, at the Nolte Academy studios.
Information about recital will be available in January. Students are expected to purchase costumes and required tights/shoes for their classes. Hair should be secured away from the face for students through 1st Grade Combo. Level 1+ should have hair in a low bun for females, and/or secured away from face for those with short hair and male students. Light stage make up is permitted, but not required. Our Hancher recital is typically four shows over the span of a weekend: Friday night, Saturday matinee, Saturday evening and Sunday matinee. Ticket sales open to Nolte senior families in advance, and then to the general public through Hancher (online and in-person) in late April/early May. Recital T-shirts will be available for advance order in May.
What type of fees can we expect?
• registration fee due one time when you register
• tuition fees month to month, which include tax
• cost to buy attire for dance (not charged through Nolte)
• recital fees added in the spring, but recital is optional (that includes costume fees and possibly a recital fee)
